Test Resource Utilization
& Efficiency Report Suite
| The Test Resource
Utilization & Efficiency (TRUE) Report Suite from Derby Associates provides
electronics manufacturers with a quick and effective method to monitor and improve test
utilization on the shop floor or across the manufacturing supply chain. The TRUE report
suite improves engineering decision support, increasing test workcell productivity and
ultimately the "beat rate" of the production process.
ATE solutions, such as incircuit and functional test, play an important
role in ensuring companies get quality products to their customer, while eliminating
costly field failures. However, the cost of an effective test workcell can be high when
factoring in test equipment, test engineering, program development and fixture costs. ATE
costs can easily exceed millions of dollars, so there is a clear business need to maximize
the return on test assets.
If test resources are not managed effectively, electrical test can
become a costly bottleneck on the shop floor, resulting in increased ATE capital, labor
costs, cycle times and WIP.
The TRUE report suite monitors real-time metrics so engineers can
determine how effective test resources are being used and the root causes for poor
utilization problems.
TRUE reports can be added to Derbys Shop Floor Quality or Web-PBQ
quality management applications, making it possible to monitor incircuit or functional
test utilization at local, remote and contract manufacturing sites. |

Test
Utilization Reports:
Single Tester
Utilization Report
This report calculates utilization as a percentage of the available hours
in a day for an incircuit or functional tester over a selected date range. Utilization is
displayed on a run chart that quickly indicates any abnormally low utilization periods
that need further investigation. The report also includes a Tester Utilization Summary pie
chart that compares testing and idle times. This report enables engineers to quickly check
on the effectiveness a specific tester.
Multiple
Tester Utilization Report
This report calculates utilization as a percentage of the available hours
in a day for multiple testers over a selected date range. This report enables the user to
compare utilization across several testers at local or remote sites. Results are plotted
on a run chart that shows daily utilization for each tester with the option of adding a
running average. The report also includes a Tester Utilization Summary pie chart that
compares total testing and idle times for the group of testers. Test Managers can quickly
check on the effectiveness of their test resources regardless of where the equipment is in
the supply chain.

Testing
Profile Report
This report analyzes the types of products that have been tested on a
specific incircuit or functional tester and displays the information in a pie chart. The
report provides a breakdown of the products being tested (i.e. % of total testing time by
product) so the user can see if testing profile is effecting utilization. This report also
provides data that can be used for test workcell planning or costing.
Test Loop Count by
Assembly Type Report
Reports the average number of tests required for a serialized board or unit
to pass incircuit or functional test. The results are displayed as a bar diagram making it
easy to detect excessive loop counts (e.g. >> 2) and highlights areas where tester
utilization is poor and requires investigation.
Test Loop
Count Report
Lists all serialized boards or units that have exceeded a set test loop
count limit. In verbose mode this report shows details on all test events and failures by
serial number and enables the user to determine the cause for excessive test loop count.
This report also enables engineers to detect rogue boards and pull them from the shop
floor so they stop consuming test resources.
Fixture Usage
Count Report
Poor or worn fixtures, especially at incircuit test, can reduce tester
utilization due to contact issues. This report takes the guesswork out of fixture
maintenance by displaying the number of actuations perform by Fixture ID over a specified
date range. Fixture usage is displayed on a bar chart in descending order. The user can
set a Warning Limit and the color of the bars will change to red if the limit is exceeded,
yellow if usage is within 10% and green if the usage is below 90% of the limit. The
Fixture Usage Count report improves the maintenance process ensuring contact issues and
"false calls" at the tester are minimized!

Fixture Pin Defects
Report
Some incircuit testers are capable of indicating which fixture probes are
failing. This report displays which fixture pins are frequently failing. Engineers can use
this data to target suspect fixtures pins that need to be replaced immediately or during
the next scheduled maintenance.
