Shop Floor Connect - Web-based Data Collection

Shop Floor Connect (SFConnect) is a data collection framework that offers the widest range of robust links to commercial Automated Test Equipment (ATE) in the electronics industry. SFConnect features a comprehensive data collection solution that leverages an extensive data collection format that was specifically designed for electronics manufacturing, standard automated data collection links to commercial ATE, and a flexible data movement mechanism. SFConnect enables electronics manufacturers to collect the test, defect, and quality data needed to facilitate real-time decision support on the shop floor or across the manufacturing supply chain.

The SFConnect Framework is made up of the following modules:

Data Collection Server  - DCServer

The DCServer is the workhorse behind SFConnect, which is responsible for collecting and moving data in real-time from the shop floor to the appropriate Derby or third party software application. The DCServer can also be configured to send shop floor data to multiple sites in the supply chain to facilitate information interchange within an enterprise or between Contract Manufacturers and Original Equipment Manufacturers  .

DCServer can collect raw data in most ASCII formats, including Derby's DCFormat, Agilent 3070 Format, Teradyne/Genrad Formats, and custom formats. This enables the SFConnect Framework to link to any commercial, custom, or in-house test solutions that supports data logging.

A license to use Derby’s DCFormat is also included with the DCServer.

Data Collection Format  - DCFormat

SFConnect also provides a data collection format (DCFormat), which has been specifically designed to meet the decision support needs of the electronics industry. DCFormat is unique in its capability to handle a wide variety of shop floor data including measurement, event, failure and process data. A license to use Derby’s DCFormat is included with the Data Collection Server.

DCFormat was originally designed to work with test data formats designed by Hewlett-Packard’s Manufacturing Test Division in the early eighties. Since 1990, Derby has continued to enhance and extend DCFormat, which has resulted in an extensive data collection framework that can be used to support automated data collection links to commercial or custom test and repair solutions.

A complete range of knowledge-based assets (including a comprehensive data dictionary) has also been developed to enable Derby customers, system integrators, and technology partners to create their own seamless links (based on DCFormat) to in-house, or custom functional testers. Many leading manufacturers within Derby's installed base have adopted DCFormat to enhance and extend their shop floor and supply chain data collection capability.

Data Collection Format API   - DCF-API

Functional test systems today are typically based on a commercial or in-house test executive platform that has been designed to specifically address the programming needs of Test Engineering. However, the data logging capability of these test executive platforms may be limited, which can make automated data collection from functional test difficult!

The DCF API is a programming tool that enables test developers to add a commercial data collection framework (based on Derby’s DCFormat) to their functional test programs. With the DCF API, test developers can embed standard function calls in their test programs that generate the measurement, failure and event data needed for advanced engineering decision support and quality management. The DCF API converts all data collected to DCFormat records before automatically sending them on to the Derby Data Collection Server for distribution.

Benefits of the DCF API are:

bullet01.gif (64 bytes) Robust and consistent mechanism for generating test data records at functional test -  Reduces test development effort.

bullet01.gif (64 bytes) Data abstraction between the tester and the data collection framework - Reduces on-going test program maintenance & support.

bullet01.gif (64 bytes) Forward compatibility with updates to Shop Floor Connect and DCFormat - Simplifies on-going software support.

The DCF API allows functional test systems to become an integral part of the decision support network, enabling electronics manufacturers to make better decisions faster.

Manual Data Entry - MaDE

MaDE is a PC-based, manual data entry solution that collects raw data from the shop floor and is part of Derby’s data collection framework. MaDE also supports data collection via a web browser. MaDE comes with a set of standard, manual data entry templates that can be used as is, or can be modified to meet the needs of a specific manufacturing environment. The MaDE server collects raw data from the shop floor, converts it to Derby’s DCFormat, then transfers it to Shop Floor Connects’ Data Collection Server (DCServer), which then distributes the data to the appropriate software applications.

MaDE combines standard, PC-based applications with field-proven data collection expertise. The MaDE application runs on Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, and uses interface design components based on Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP.NET) technology.
